Cross of Kings of Larraga´s Friends

The Cross de Reyes of Larraga is an athletics sporting event with a distinctly popular character, originating in the year 1988 and celebrated annually around Epiphany Day.

This event was initially driven by several local sports enthusiasts and is part of the scheduled activities by the Sports Commission of the Larraga Town Council.

Since its inception until today, it has been held every year, except for 2007, with great popularity among sports enthusiasts.

In 2010, the group responsible for organizing the Cross de Reyes formed the “Friends of the Cross de Reyes of Larraga Association,” with the following objectives:

  • Organize and promote the Cross de Reyes in Larraga.
  • Promote athletics in Larraga.
  • Secure and provide human, financial, and material resources to achieve these goals, always with the necessary collaboration from the Larraga Town Council.

The efforts of the Association have led to an increase in participation, with around three hundred participants in the main event, including a growing number of local male and female participants. One of the major successes has been the increase in female participation from Larraga, with training sessions months before each edition attracting many local women (known as Raguesas). Additionally, children have their own race every year, tailored to their age group.

In 2011, driven by the same group’s enthusiasm, the “Cross del Encierro Ragues” was created, a festive event without competitive character, held on August 4th, the eve of the patron saint festivities.

Later, in 2015, the “Duathlon Villa de Larraga” was established, combining running and cycling events in April, gradually gaining popularity among enthusiasts.

Larraga has also been a pioneer in Nordic Walking, offering courses where nearly a hundred people have learned the technique of walking with poles. Regular outings are organized both within Larraga and on other routes.
